Non Metallic Minerals

Non - Metallic Minerals

These types of minerals do not contain metals. They break when hit and break into pieces. These are usually found in the sedimentary rocks. Such as limestone, dolomite, mica, gypsum etc. It can be divided into two parts-

  • Organic Minerals - Organic mineral contain fossils, such as fossil fuel coal, petroleum products, etc.
  • Inorganic Minerals -  Inorganic minerals do not contain fossils. For example limestone, mica graphite.
  • The basic characteristic of non-metallic minerals is that they do not yield new products on melting. These are generally associated with sedimentary rocks. E.g. granite, sandstone, etc.
